Poem on Red Leaf

About 850 AD, the late Tan Dynasty, a bored servant-girl in Emperor's Palace wrote a poem on a red leaf and put it on the water running out. The poem described her loneliness and oppression in the Palace. An intellectual outside picked up the leaf and wrote a poem in response and put it on the water running into the Palace. Several years past, the Emperor freed some servant-girl and let them marry common people. This intellectual married one of these servant-girls. He was so astonished and surprised when he saw a red leaf with his poem on it in bride's wedding luggage. She was just the servant-girl who reacted with him by poems on the leaves years ago. The couple thought their marriage was meant to be by destiny. And the story of poem on the red leaf has thereby been told.
